Not a single nomination was filed on the first day of filing nominations for the Lok Sabha elections. However, a total of 48 nomination papers were procured from the five Lok Sabha constituencies in the state. Now, only three days are left for purchase and submission of nomination papers- March 19, 22 and 25 since these tasks can be done only on working days.
According to information provided by officials, the maximum number of nomination papers- 13 were sold in Tehri parliamentary constituency, followed by 11 in Haridwar constituency, 10 in Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar constituency, nine in Garhwal constituency and five in Almora-Pithoragarh constituency.
In the Garhwal constituency, those who procured the nomination papers from Pauri collectorate included Tirath Singh Rawat of the BJP, Manish Khanduri of the Congress, Shiv Singh and six others. Similarly, in the Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar constituency, those who procured the nomination papers from the collectorate in Rudrapur included Rajesh Kumar Dwivedi of the BSP and other independent candidates. In the Almora-Pithoragarh constituency a total of five persons procured nomination papers. These included Sundar Dhauni of BSP, Draupadi Verma of UKD(D), Vimla of Parivartan Party, Pradeep Tamta of the Congress and Mahesh Chandra Arya of RPI (Athawale).
In the Haridwar constituency, those who procured the nomination papers on Monday included Antariksh Saini of the BSP and 10 candidates from other parties and independents. In the Tehri parliamentary constituency the 13 nomination papers were procured for BJP’s Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, Asha Manorama Dobriyal of the Congress, Rajendra Purohit of the Communist Party of India, Ashok Panwar of BSP, independents and candidates from other parties. It is pertinent to mention here that the two national parties BJP and Congress have not yet announced the names of their candidates from the five parliamentary constituencies.
