A 27 year-old and four-month pregnant woman allegedly committed suicide after hanging herself from a ceiling fan in northwest Delhi’s Keshav Puram area. The incident occurred on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Parul Jain, a resident of Tri Nagar. According to a senior police official, a police control room (PCR) call regarding the incident was received at around following which a police team rushed to the spot.

“After reaching the spot, the body of a woman was found hanging from the ceiling fan with the help of a saree at the second floor of a building in Tri Nagar. Police cut the saree with the help of scissor and the body was sent to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital for the post-mortem which was conducted on Monday,” said a senior police official.

“Police have not recovered any suicide note from the spot. Parul got married to one Gaurav Jain (30) on December 13, 2018. Gaurav runs a shoe shop in Jai Mata Market in Tri Nagar,” said the police official adding that police is investigating the incident with all angles. 

However, the family members of Parul alleged that in room where she committed suicide was locked from outside and instead of breaking it, the family members of Gaurav broke open another room and through gallery they entered it from back side.

“There was no stool present in the room and the case is not of suicide, it is a clear murder. She never told me and my wife about her family issues as she knew that I have some health issues. She asked me for Rs 20,000 and Rs 18,000 earlier. She always used to speak to her brother and shared all issues with him,” said Hari Mohan, father of Parul.

In his complaint to police, Mohan said that his daughter was four months pregnant and Gaurav and his family members used to torture her, following which she took this step to end her life.
