35 new dengue cases reported in Capital

With 35 fresh cases, the total number of cases of malaria in Delhi has reached to158 till July 13 this year. The national Capital has also witnessed spurt in patients suffering from dengue with at least 118 persons afflicted from the disease till now in which 35 cases traced last week.

Also, seven new cases of Chikungunya reported in the city in a week, taking the total number to 41. However, out of total cases of malaria, 29 cases diagnosed belong to the neighbouring states while 13 patients suffering from dengue traced in Delhi belong to other states.

Following the increasing number of cases, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) held a meeting chaired by Mayor Anju to sensitize its councillors about vector borne diseases.

Mayor said that a public awareness campaign on these diseases will be launched from 17th to19th July in all wards of East Delhi. She said that the people of the area will be made aware of these serious diseases through these rallies.

The Chairman of the Standing Committee in EDMC Sandeep Kapoor said that dengue has emerged as a major challenge in the last few years and the corporation is taking every effort to reduce the numbers.  "Expressing concern over the rising outbreak of dengue and malaria, Leader of the House Nirmal Jain insisted that public cooperation is necessary to control these diseases as it starts from home.

All the three corporations have found mosquito-breeding in at least 38,512 households and 38,294 legal notices have been issued this year. Last year, 2,798 dengue cases and four deaths were recorded by the SDMC, which tabulates the data on vector-borne diseases in the city.

Doctors have advised people to use mosquito repellents, wear clothes which cover your full body and avoid places that are more prone to the diseases. According to the SDMC, 10 people had died due to dengue in Delhi in 2017, of which five were not residents of the national capital. Overall, the vector-borne disease had affected 9,271 people in the city last year.
