A 48-year-old man allegedly hacked his daughter-in-law with sharp weapons and later committed suicide at Baruneipada village under the Panikoili police limits in Jajpur district. According to reports, Damodar Behera attacked his daughter-in-law Sakuntala (27) on Saturday afternoon during the absence of his son at the house. Hearing screams of the woman, neighbours rushed to the spot and found her in a bleeding state. They rescued her and admitted her to the District Headquarters Hospital. Sakuntala was later shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack as her condition deteriorated. Later, the body of Damodar was found hanging from a tree on the outskirts of the village. Police registered a case in connection the incidents and started investigation.
The reason of the attack on the young woman could be ascertained after recording her statement, police said.
