The Delhi Police Crime Branch have arrested five men for allegedly kidnapping and strangling a 64-year-old businessman and a resident of posh Greater Kailash area to death.
Police said that Arun Sharma was abducted and murdered by hired killers on November 15 and his body was disposed off the same day near Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh.
Police said Arun had his own electronics business in South Delhi. The accused have been identified as Dr Rishi Rajpal Singh Chauhan, (64), Hitesh Chauhan (29), Amet Vikram Chhabra (32), Priyank Khanna (34) and Sahil (25), all residents of Gurugram. They were arrested on Wednesday.
According to BK Singh, Additional Commissioner of Police, Crime, Sharma was reported missing since November 15 after he left his home on the fateful morning following which a case was registered.
“The case was initially being investigated by the local police but was later transferred to the Anti Human Trafficking Unit of the Crime Branch on November 27,’ said the Additional CP.
‘During investigation, it was revealed that there was an ongoing dispute between the victim, Arun Sharma and Rishi Raj Chauhan and his wife Chander Bala vis-à-vis a property at Sector-17, Viban Estate in Gurugram,” said the Additional CP.
“Arun had purchased the property from Rishi and his wife in 2009/2010 but the possession was still with Rishi. Arun had secured an order in his favour from the Supreme Court in September, 2019. On November 15 the execution matter was listed before the Gurugram Court. He had gone missing on the same day. The value of the property is stated to be about Rs. 3 crores,” said the DCP.
“Rishi was called for questioning by police and during questioning Rishi broke down and confessed to the crime,” said the Additional CP.
“Rishi told police that his son, Hitesh, was also involved in the gruesome crime. The father, son duo had paid Rs 1 lakh in advance to three persons to kidnap and eliminate Arun Sharma. These three accused persons Amet, Priyank and Sahil were arrested during the course of investigation. A white Mahindra Scorpio car used in the crime and the mobile phones used by the criminals to communicate during this period, have also been seised,” said the Additional CP.
