The police have booked 50 persons for deterring public servants from discharging  their duty in Vidisha after crowd went berserk over a road accident in which six cows were mowed down by a speeding truck late on Friday.

Superintendent of Police Bharat Bhushan Sharma on Saturday told media persons that 50 persons have been booked by the police on charges of obstructing government work and other sections of the IPC.

He confirmed that a speeding truck had killed some cows on highway after which locals went on rampage. The angry mob had set the truck on fire and staged Chakka Jaam at Sagar-Bhopal highway. Police on the receipt of the information had reached the spot and disperse the mob using mild force. After the incident the traffic on highway remained obstructed for around one hour and administrative officers including SDM Pravin Prajapati, SHO and the tahsildar had to take things into their control. Police force was deployed in the area to keep things under control. The angry mob had also pelted police team and administrative officers with stones. Locals claimed that a rashly driven truck was moving towards Bhopal from Sagar on Friday night and hit a group of cows close to Ashish Mangal Vatika. Total six cows had died in the incident and others were injured in the accident. Soon local residents and members of right wings reached the spot creating ruckus. The agitated locals were demanding arrest of the truck driver and establishment of Police post on the square.

The truck driver was also beaten up by the angry locals. The police later rescued him and sent him for treatment at nearby hospital. The police later booked truck Driver Rakesh Ahirwar and also 50 locals who were part of the protest after the accident.
