Based on detailed intelligence analysis of threat perceptions and the sheer volume of voters, who are going to exercise their franchise on May 12 to elect the seven Lok Sabha members from the national Capital, the Delhi Police has put in place an extensive security apparatus to ensure safety on the polling day. The Delhi Police will deploy over 60,000 police personnel, including 47 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and 13,000 Home Guards to ensure smooth polling.

The Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik has recently chaired a meeting of  the senior police officers of the neighouring States to ensure better coordination in the intelligence sharing and smooth movement of the poll-related material to the polling stations. He also instructed the security forces to provide safe upkeep of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

According to the intelligence assessment, there are 441 critical polling stations across the city and there will be heavy deployment of police personnel. Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) and Special Weapon and Tactic (SWAT) teams will be deployed alongwith the Mounted Police. Local police has been instructed  to keep a tab on the movement of ruffians, knifers and bad characters (BCs) and people with past record of poll related violence, a senior police official said.

Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik told The Pioneer that there will be an elaborate security deployment all over the city with extra emphasis on sensitive polling station in different parts of the National Capital. Apart from the deployment of senior police official and police personnel there will be adequate deployment from CAPFs to man communally sensitive areas.  Patnaik said they have prepared a detailed plan of deployment inn accordance of the instructions of the Election Commission of India.

"There will be patrolling by special reserve parties in vulnerable areas. There will be special watch on border areas to foil any attempt to infiltrate by anti-social elements to cause disruption. There will be strict vigil to ensure malpractices like liquor peddling and movement of anti-social elements with a purpose to influence voters do not happen," said the CP.

According to Madhur Verma, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), New Delhi district, anti-terror measures are also in place and special arrangements have been made to check sabotage of polling booths, including election rigging.
