Seven employees of a garment factory in Gurugram sustained burns injuries while three of them were seriously injured after a fire broke out in the basement of the premises on Sunday morning. The injured have been identified as Arun, Santosh, Chotelal, Kamlesh, Satprakash, Anil and Ravinder. According to Fire department officials, the electric panel caught fire due to short-circuit.

“The injured, all factory employees, were reportedly printing clothes at the factory, Shobha garment, in Sector-37 when the incident occurred around 2.45 am. The injured workers were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment,” said the Fire department official.  “The fire broke out in the electric panel. Initial investigation suggests that the fire could have occurred due to short-circuit. Ravinder, Arun and Santosh were seriously injured as they got burns on their legs, face, stomach and hands and were taken to Sunrise hospital Sector-10 where the doctors referred them to Safdarjung hospital as their condition were critical,” said the official.

Fire officials have estimated a loss of several lakhs in the incident. Four fire tenders were rushed to the spot. “By the time we doused the flames, the victims had received fire injuries. It took approximately two hours to douse the flames. No casualties were reported so far. However, a major incident was averted as the workers ensured that fire did not spread from the adjourning parts of the company,” I.S Kashyap chief fire officer, said.

Meanwhile, the exact cause of the fire was not yet known. While a preliminary investigation suggests that a short circuit could be a reason behind the incident. Moreover, the fire officials said they got an alert of the fire in the commercial units at around 3.15 am and it took almost two hours to douse the flames.

“The unit didn’t obtain a Fire NOC. Also, the fire equipment was also not available in the company. The reason behind the untoward incident was uncertain and more details are awaited,” said. The sector-37 police station has, meanwhile, lodged a case of negligence against the factory management. “We have registered a case and are in the process of fixing the responsibility of negligence on the culprits,” the police official said.
