Saturday, 23 March 2019 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

In the run-up to the Lok Sabha election, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would start its high-voltage  election campaign for Delhi’s ‘full Statehood’ from Saturday under the leadership of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

AAP in an official statement said, “The campaign for full Statehood will start on the death anniversary of freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev. The party has also planned a roadshow on Saturday in west Delhi which would be led by senior AAP leader Gopal Rai in the presence of party’s Lok Sabha candidate from the West Delhi Balbir Singh Jakhar”.

National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal would hold 35 jan sabhas and the party plans to organise 280 jan sabhas by April 30 under the first phase of its campaign, it further said.

“The main agenda of this campaign would be to highlight how people of the national capital “were cheated by the BJP. The campaign would also focus on the impact of the government decisions like demonetisation, implementation of GST, among others,” the party said in a statement.

The AAP has divided its campaign into two phases. The first phase would take place from March 23 to April 7 and the second phase of campaigning would be held from April 8 to April 30.

The ruling AAP has already announced the names of its candidates for the seven Lok Sabha seats. The seven AAP candidates are Atishi from East Delhi, Guggan Singh from North-West Delhi, Raghav Chadha from South, Dilip Pandey from North-East, Pankaj Gupta from Chandni Chowk, Balbir Singh Jhakhar from West Delhi Lok Sabha seats and Brijesh Goyal will contest from New Delhi seats. The BJP and Congress have not yet declared their candidates for elections in Delhi.

Elections to the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi will be held on May 12. The results will be declared with the rest of the country on May 23.
