AAP workers burn manifesto of BJP, seek full Statehod

Saturday, 16 March 2019 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

Ahead of the Lok Sabha election, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as a part of its campaigning  once again burnt the manifesto of  Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of 2014 Lok Sabbha elections. Demanding full Statehood, the volunteers and AAP MLA’s protested against the BJP by burning its manifesto in all 70 Assembly constituencies.

“Scared BJP leaders do not even know what they are talking on Statehood. People of Delhi are no longer ready to bear the injustice being meted out to them since last seven decades,” said Gopal Rai, the Delhi Convenor of AAP.

Announcing the details of wide actions in Delhi, Rai said that, “If Delhi will get full Statehood, the students no longer have to run for seeking in Delhi colleges despite scoring high marks in Class XII board examination, Educated Delhi youth are entitled for jobs and they cannot be denied this right, Women safety remains a major concern for residents and Delhi Police has to be made accountable to the people of Delhi.”

The AAP leader further said that the residents of Delhi contribute Rs 1.5 lakh crore in taxes to the Centre and they get a meager Rs 325 crore back - this injustice will no longer be tolerated. “Badly baffled and confused BJP is changing its stand everyday on Delhi statehood.”

Rai further claimed that Delhi BJP Unit President Manoj Tiwari is giving lame and laughable excuses in a desperate bid to justify the indefensible u-turn of the BJP.”Manoj Tiwari is saying that Delhi cannot be given statehood when there is a chief minister like Arvind Kejriwal who sat on a dharna near the Rail Bhawan in January 2014. If that is the logic, then why did the BJP promise it in its 2014 Lok Sabha manifesto in March 2014 ? Tiwari should keep in mind that after that dharna, Delhi people chose Kejriwal by electing his party on 67 out of 70 seats in Delhi Assembly.”

AAP volunteers will now take the statehood movement to the next level by burning the BJP manifesto in all 272 wards of Delhi on Sunday, Rai added.
