Former minister and BJP MLA Ajay Chandrakar tendered an apology for making caste-specific comment about School Education Minister Dr Premsai Singh during question hour in the monsoon session of Chhattisgarh assembly on Thursday.
When minister was replying to supplementary queries on Right to Education, Ajay Chandrakar mentioned a caste-specific word, which triggered strong protest from treasury members.
Food and civil supplies minister Amarjeet Bhagat, Brihaspati Singh and others raised objection to the comment and sought Chair’s intervention to get an apology from the member.
Amid the continuing verbal duel, Speaker Charandas Mahant asked former chief minister Ajit Jogi to give his “expert opinion” on the issue. Ajit Jogi said the use of such caste-specific comment by any member was demeaning.
He said by tendering an apology the member would help raise his stature and it would not belittle him, Jogi said. He said on the heat of the moment, it could happen.
As several Congress MLAs continued to seek apology, Ajay Chandrakar said for the first time in 20 years of his public life he was tendering an apology on the issue.
