On the first day of the monsoon session of Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Thursday, the House was adjourned after paying tributes to Bharatiya Janata Party legislator from Agra (North), Jagan Prasad Garg, who died in April this year.
As the House assembled at 11 am, Speaker Hriday Narayan Dikshit informed the members about obituary reference on the death of the sitting member of the House.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Leader of opposition and Samajwadi Party member Ram Govind Chaudhary, Bahujan Samaj Party leader Lalji Verma, Congress member Aradhana Mishra, Apna Dal leader, and Suheldeo Bhartiya Samaj Party leader Om Prakash Rajbhar expressed condolences.
“Garg was a dedicated worker who left his imprints in all walks of life. He worked for the uplift of the poor and also worked in social and religious fields. With his death, the BJP has lost a dedicated worker who always talked about welfare of the people,” the Chief Minister said.
Later, the Speaker expressed condolence and the House observed a two-minute silence before it was adjourned for the day.
Garg, a four time legislator, died on April 10, 2019. He represented Agra (North) Assembly constituency in the Assembly.
Before the start of the session, SP members held a protest near the statue of Chaudhary Charan Singh on the Vidhan Bhawan premises over deteriorating law and order in the state.
