Monday, 11 February 2019 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

A newborn baby girl, suspected to have been abandoned by her parents, was rescued in a critical condition from a secluded place in the Prasanti Vihar area here on Sunday.

Reports said a group of passersby rescued the baby from the clutches of stray dogs. The infant has sustained critical injuries on her head, eyes and legs in the attack by dogs and mongooses, sources said.

“I had gone to the place to dump garbage when I heard the cries of the baby,” said a man, who rescued the baby.

“My husband had gone to burn the garbage when he spotted the baby. We immediately rushed to the spot and saw the baby being dragged by stray dogs and mongooses. We rescued her from there,” said the wife of the man.

On getting information, police rushed to the spot and shifted the girl to a private hospital here. The girl’s condition was said to be serious.
