BJP took objection to the statement of Chhattisgarh Director General of Police over the National Investigation Agency (NIA)’s probe on the killing of lone BJP MLA Bhima Mandavi in a Maoist attack.
The DGP in a statement had said without recommendation from the state government, the NIA cannot legally conduct the probe.
BJP spokesperson Sachchidanand Upasane had stated that for the NIA probe the permission or approval of the state government is not required and that the state DGP is unaware of the provision.
Upasane claimed that the “irresponsible statement” of the DGP might be politically motivated, which is against the status of the post he holds as well as public service conduct.
He pointed out that the DGP should have welcomed the high-level probe befitting the dignity of his post, instead of giving any statement. Government might come and go but in an administrative setup, which is run by codes and rules, law and constitution, things continue to move.
Upasane said administrative officials should confine themselves to public service code and refrain from giving political statements. Instead they should work for providing justice to the victims.
