The Congress accused the Bharatiya Janta Party of honouring the killer of Mahatma Gandhi and declared to boycott the Special Session of UP legislature on Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary.
Accusing the BJP of felicitating Gandhi’s killer, Congress Legislative Party (CLP) Leader in the Assembly Ajay Kumar Lallu told mediapersons on Tuesday that party legislators would stay away from the session on Wednesday. “Gandhi’s statues were vandalised in the state, temples of the Mahatma’s assassin were constructed and he was glorified. The BJP is now indulging in tokenism to cleanse its image,” Lallu pointed out.
The Congress leader said that Mahatma Gandhi always preached ‘Satya hi dharam jai” (truth was religion) and also followed it throughout his life. “But the BJP government is working against those who were following the path shown by Gandhiji. The government has been standing behind rape accused, killers and is patronising corrupt officers. Those who dare to tread the path of truth or raise voice against government’s misdeeds are being arrested by the Yogi government,” he alleged. “Not only this, farmers are committing suicide, youths are unemployed, women are struggling to save their modesty and every family is facing hardships due to rising prices of essential commodities, but the Yogi government does not care for them,” Lallu said.
