BJP may field 3 sitting MPs and 7 new faces in Hry

The BJP is likely to field three sitting MPs in Haryana while new faces will be seen on seven other Lok Sabha seats in the state.

Haryana BJP election committee in its meeting held in New Delhi on Monday discussed probable candidates on 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

At present, the BJP has seven MPs in the state.

The election committee is believed to have given nod to the candidature of sitting MP Rao Inderjit Singh from Gurugram, Krishan Pal Gurjar from Faridabad and Rattan Lal Kataria from Ambala.

The three MPs were also present during the meeting in New Delhi. Kalraj Mishra, incharge for the Lok Sabha elections in Haryana, Chief Minister Manohar Lal, party’s co-incharge for Lok Sabha polls in Haryana, Vishwas Sarang, party’s Haryana incharge Anil Jain and Cabinet Ministers were present in the meeting.

Sources said that the party is unlikely to field BJP MPs Ramesh Chander and Dharmveer again from Sonepat and Bhiwani-Mahendragarh constituency respectively and discussed probable candidates for the two seats.

Earlier, it was speculated that new faces will be fielded from Karnal and Kurukshetra seats, represented by BJP’s Ashwini Kumar Chopra and rebel BJP leader Raj Kumar Saini.  However, the party is now gearing to field new faces from Jat dominated seats of Sonepat and Bhiwani-Mahendragarh as well.

The names of IAS Brijendra Singh, son of Union Minister Birender Singh, CM’s media advisor Rajiv Jain, party leader Krishna Gahlawat were discussed for Sonepat seat in the meeting. Three-time former MP Arvind Sharma, who had joined the BJP last week is also seen as a contender from Karnal, Rohtak and Sonepat seat.

Union Minister Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, the seven-time BJP MP has expressed interest to contest from Karnal constituency while the party also discussed the possibility of her candidature from Kurukshetra constituency.

The names of two other contenders for the BJP ticket in Karnal – Sanjay Bhatia, an aide of Chief Minister and Kiran Chopra, wife of sitting BJP member Ashwani Chopra – were also deliberated upon. For Rohtak seat, names of Arvind Sharma, OP Dhankar,  Shamsher Singh Kharkara are under consideration, sources said. Candidature of singer Hans Raj Hans is being considered for Sirsa constituency (reserved), names of MLAs Nayab Saini and Pawan Saini were discussed for Kurukshetra and candidature of Finance Minister Capt Abhimanyu and IAS Brijendra Singh were discussed for Hisar seat. After the meeting, Anil Jain, incharge for Haryana party affairs, while talking to the mediapersons said that we have many ticket aspirants for 10 parliamentary seats in the state.

Discussion was held on probable candidates on 10 seats and party’s campaign strategy for Lok Sabha polls, Jain said. The committee has given the responsibility to Kalraj Mishra, Vishwas Sarang, Haryana CM, Subhash Barala to finalize the candidates and submit the list to the BJP central election committee, he added.

The election committee is likely to meet on March 22, when the candidates will be finalized and the list will be submitted to the party high command.
