BJP MLA demands revocation of reservation roster decision

Thursday, 05 September 2019 | PNS | Dehradun

The change in roster of reservations in Government jobs proposed by Uttarakhand Cabinet is meeting opposition from within the BJP. On Wednesday, the Jhabreda MLA, Deshraj Karnwal, met the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat at State secretariat and demanded that the old system of roster in jobs should be restored. The MLA submitted a memorandum to the CM in which he raised many issues related with the Schedule Caste (SC) and Schedule Tribe (ST) community.

The delegation demanded that the report of Irshad Hussain committee should be tabled in the state Assembly. Karnwal said that resentment is brewing among the members of SC and ST on the decision of State Government to file review petition against the judgement of Uttarakhand High Court is proving reservation in promotions in Government jobs. He said that the decision to change the roster number of SC candidates from place one to six is also generating anger in the SC community. Karnwal claimed that many social organisations and opposition Congress party are planning to start an agitation on the issue of roster. He said that in Uttar Pradesh (UP), a system of roster in which SC candidates are placed at number one is prevalent.

The BJP MLA also told the CM that the decision to demolish 650 year old temple of Saint Ravidas in Delhi is unfortunate and is huge resentment is simmering in the SC community and followers of Saint Ravidas.
