BJP members on Saturday staged a dharna in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue in the State Assembly premises after staging a walkout from the House alleging that they are not being allowed to speak on the issue of “killing” of Jajpur district’s Haridashpur PEO Smitarani Biswal.
When the House met, Congress and BJD members participated in the Question Hour debate while BJP members kept standing at their respective chairs with their faces tied with black clothes.
As the Speaker requested them repeatedly to take their seats and participate in the Question Hour, BJP Legislature Party Deputy Leader Bishnu Charan Sethi said, “When we are not being allowed to raise our voice related to Smitarani killing, there is no use for us to participate in the debate. Now, we are going to Mahatama Gandhi statue to stage a dharna.”
Then all BJP members moved out of the House and sat at the Gandhi statue. They didn’t participate in any of proceedings held in the House on the day.
Notably, BJP members had staged a silent dharna in the House by wearing black bands on Friday.
