The ruling Congress, taking a dig at BJP’s proposed protest against the state government on paddy purchase, said on Thursday the state government is going to purchase paddy at the rate of Rs 2,500 per quintal and if BJP is interested in protest then they should place demand with the party-led government at the Centre to purchase rice from Chhattisgarh.
The party appealed to all BJP leaders to stage protest over farmers’ problems not only in Chhattisgarh but also join Congress party’s protest in Delhi.
“BJP should demand of the central government to purchase 32 lakh metric tons rice from the farmers of Chhattisgarh,” chairman state Congress communication department Shailesh Nitin Trivedi said.
If FCI’s godown in Chhattisgarh will not store rice produced in the state then what else should they store, Trivedi questioned.
Chhattisgarh government has decided to pay Rs 2,500 to the farmer in place of Rs 1815 provided by the Central government. State government has neither asked any excessive fund nor is going to make any such demand for paying the money to farmers, he claimed while adding, this year Chhattisgarh government has requested from the central government to purchase 32 lakh tons of rice from Chhattisgarh.
Betraying farmers is the character of the BJP and not the Congress, he quipped.
