BJP to dump sitting MPs in Chhattisgarh

Wednesday, 20 March 2019 | Staff Reporter | RAIPUR

Amid surge of Congress popularity in Chhattisgarh, the BJP on Tuesday decided to field new faces for all the 11 Lok Sabha seats to revive its poll fortune in the mineral-rich State.

BJP national general secretary and party in-charge for Chhattisgarh Dr Anil Jain while interacting with media on Tuesday said party’s Central Election Committee has agreed to put up new faces in Chhattisgarh where the party had won 10 out of the 11 seats in 2014 polls.

BJP sources informed that BJP national vice-president and former chief minister Raman Singh could be fielded from Rajnandgaon in place of his son, Abhishek Singh.

Meanwhile, in a separate development Chhattisgarh chief electoral officer Subrat Sahoo said that election model code of conduct is the base of election management and that the success of the election depends on how effectively the code is followed.

He was addressing the programme, ‘No the Code’, organised by the Vision India Foundation.

He said without putting any impact on the public services, the code of conduct is enforced on those linked to the government and political parties. The model code of conduct is not a law but it’s an effective tool that can ensure the success of an election. Impartiality is maintained if the code is followed and judiciously used.

Sahoo urged the youth to use their right to franchise and motivate others to do so. He said youth is the highest number of voters in the country. They are armed with technology and awareness. So to further strengthen the democracy, participation of youth is most necessary.

On media’s role, the CEO said, “It is one of the effective medium, but danger of its misuse also remains. Techno savvy youth team monitors the social media misuse during the polls. Technology and coordination has made the polls management easy.”BJP to dump sitting MPs in Chhattisgarh
