A joint team of the Special Squad and the Khandagiri police on Tuesday seized 250 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 25 lakh in the city. The police also arrested a person in this connection.
The accused was identified as Santosh Panda, a resident of Balanga in Puri district. Besides, the contraband, cash of Rs 2.14 lakh, five mobile phones and a bike were seized from his possession.
As many as five cases are pending against Panda in various police stations in Khordha and Puri districts for his alleged involvement in drug peddling.
The accused was taken into custody for interrogation; and further investigations are on to unearth more information, said city DCP Anup Sahoo.
