BSP ‘ditches’ JCC (J), unilaterally names six candidates

Wednesday, 20 March 2019 | Staff Reporter | RAIPUR

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Tuesday announced its candidates for the state’s six parliamentary constituencies, out of 11, without even consulting its potential ally, the Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (JCC-J).

The snub came as a major embarrassment for the JCC-J, whose supremo Ajit Jogi expressed surprise over the development, and said he would discuss the matter with the BSP chief Mayawati.

Both the parties jointly fought the 2018 assembly elections, without making much impact. The BSP won only two seats, while the JCC-J bagged five seats in the 90-member assembly.

BSP Lok Sabha candidates are Dauram Ratnakar from Janjgir Champa, Sube Singh Dhruve from Kanker, Ayturam Mandavi from Bastar, Gitanjali Singh from Durg, Maya Bhagat from Surguja and Innocent Kujur from Raigarh.

BSP’s state president Hemant Poyam, however, did not see the unilateral announcement of candidates as an end to the alliance.

Talking to The Pioneer he said after Holi, a joint meeting of both the parties would be convened to sort out seat allocation.

He said possibility of a tie-up with the JCC-J did not end yet as his party has set aside five seats for its prospective alliance partner.
