Chhattisgarh unit of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) on Wednesday gave representations to Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members from the state as part of the confederation’s nationwide agitation against e-commerce companies Amazon and Flipkart.
They want the parliamentarians to raise in parliament, what they called unethical business practice of the e-commerce companies.
A delegation led by CAIT national vice president Amar Parwani handed over the representation to Raipur MP Sunil Soni and briefed him as to how e-commerce companies are allegedly deriving benefits of FDI policy.
The different delegations reached out to other Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs.
Sunil Soni assured the delegation that he would take up the issue with Union minister at the Winter session of parliament, which will commence from November 18. The session will be held till December 13.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman want a healthy business competition within the country and steps for the same are being undertaken.
Parwani said for long they have been demanding for an e-commerce policy. Multinational companies in country is creating wedge by their mode of functioning, thus creating a future crises before the 60 crore retailers existing in the country and those working with them, he alleged.
He pointed out these multinationals also sell materials cash on delivery but local traders have to pay tax while under FDI, they get all benefits and subsidies. Thus, they sell a product of Rs 100 at Rs 80 to reach out to maximum customers, which hits local traders.
Parwani said all companies are eyeing the Rs 45 lakh crore business of the country. “Our only demand is to bring all these e-commerce companies under the ambit of our country’s laws,” he added.
