The silent day for the Lok Sabha elections 2019 scheduled on May 12 will start from 6 pm on Friday till 6 pm on Sunday. The microphones and the videograph and social media sites of political parties will go on the relax mode as the poll campaigning ended on Friday at 6 pm. Candidates and their supporters will embark upon door to door campaigning.
“The campaigning will end this evening as the 48-hour silence period will kick start from 6 pm today till 6 pm on Sunday,” said Ranbir Singh, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Delhi.
The Delhi poll authority along with Delhi Police have identified about 16 hamlets as vulnerable and have arrested 128 persons from these areas who has been observed a probable source of intimidators/trouble mongers.
Besides, about 523 critical polling stations have been identified across the entire constituency.
Among all the critical polling stations, there are about 67 such locations in Chandni Chowk Constituency, 82 has been identified in North East, 62 in East, 120 in New Delhi, 44 in North West, 50 in West and total 100 in South Delhi seat.
“Special arrangements such as Paramilitary forces, CCTV cameras, webcasting, micro observers will be deployed in all these critical polling stations. All necessary arrangement has been made to conduct a smooth polling," said Singh.
Delhi CEO also said, “candidates with criminal antecedents (convicted or pending cases) have been asked by the ROs to publish the details of cases in leading newspapers at least three times before the date of poll.”
A total of 13,819 polling stations will be set up in 2,700 locations in the national Capital. Out of these, about 124 locations will have more than 10 polling stations and there will be 70 model polling stations. “A special polling stations in Laxmi Nagar (East Delhi constituency) and a polling booth in Tahirpur has been completely dedicated to assist the persons with disabilities voters and this will be all PwD voters polling stations as there are large number of people with Leprosy lives here,” said Singh.
Besides, this total of 17 pink polling stations manned by all woman staff will be there across the entire constituency. There are total 14,316,453 voters in the national Capital, out of which 78,73,022 are male, 64,42,762 are female and 669 are transgender. Delhi will vote on May 12.
