Class III girl ‘molestation’ sparks tension

Saturday, 20 July 2019 | PNS | SAMBALPUR

Tension prevailed at a reputed convent school in Sambalpur city on Friday morning over alleged molestation of a Class-III girl in the school premises.

Parents of the students staged a demonstration in front of the St Joseph’s School demanding safety of their children in the school.

They demanded that the school authorities ask police to investigate the incident of molestation.

The tension followed publication of the alleged molestation incident in a leading vernacular daily in its Sambalpur edition on the day.

The irate parents accused the school authorities of trying to suppress the matter.

Following the news report, pressure mounted on the school authorities as well as the police administration for a probe into the incident.

Later, police detained two persons for interrogation in this connection.

Sources said that the girl was molested by a mason and a coolie twice inside the school in the past 15 days.

The incident came to the fore after the victim hesitated to go to school and informed about her ordeal to her

parents.
