CM announces cash rewards for local bodies becoming plastic-free

Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said that the municipal corporation which first becomes plastic free will be awarded Rs 1crore. After inaugurating a workshop on Swachchh Survekshan for local bodies and cantonment boards along with Urban Development Minister Madan Kaushik, the CM announced cash rewards for local bodies achieving positions at the national and State level in the sphere of civic sanitation.

Rawat announced that the first municipality and first Nagar Panchayat to become plastic-free will be awarded Rs  75 lakh and Rs 50 lakh respectively. The local body of the state which secures a position among top 100 in the Swachchh Survekshan will also be awarded Rs 1crore. The reward for local bodies achieveing top three positions in the sanitation rankings will be raised three-fold to Rs 60 lakh, Rs  45 lakh and Rs 30 lakh for the first, second and third position holders respectively in the case of municipal corporations. The top three municipalities will receive Rs 45 lakh, Rs  30 and Rs  21 lakh respectively while the top three Nagar Panchayats will receive Rs 30 lakh, Rs 24 lakh and Rs 15 lakh respectively. The CM also awarded Rs  20 lakh to municipal corporation of Roorkee, Rs 15 lakh to municipal corporation of Kashipur and Rs 10 lakh to municipal corporation of Haldwani for securing the top three positions in the last sanitation rankings in the State.

These municipal corporations can also submit proposals for sanitation and infrastructural works amounting to Rs 1crore, Rs  75 lakh and Rs  50 lakh respectively to the State administration. Among municipalities, Muni ki Reti, Gauchar and Gopeshwar secured the first, second and third positions respectively for which they were awarded Rs  15 lakh, Rs 10 and Rs 7 lakh respectively. These municipalities can submit sanitation and infrastructural work proposals amounting to Rs 75 lakh, Rs 50 lakh and Rs  30 lakh respectively. Among Nagar Panchayats, Agastyamuni received Rs 10 lakh, Gaja received Rs 8 lakh and Shaktigarh received Rs 5 lakh for securing the top three positions along with approval for works amounting to Rs 50 lakh, Rs 30 lakh and Rs 20 lakh respectively being granted earlier. Rawat said that Uttarakhand has to be made clean, healthy and prosperous.

He said that considering its environmental wealth, the State is also responsible for preserving it. He stressed on the importance of every citizen’s contribution in maintaining cleanliness and protecting the environment. Urban Development Minister Madan Kaushik and Government of India joint secretary of Urban Development DK Jindal also addressed the gathering.
