CM thanks Centre for regularisation nod

Friday, 19 July 2019 | Sapna Singh | NEW DELHI

It’s a win -win situation for the people residing in unauthorised colonies after the Centre appeared to have agreed to a proposal of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government to regularise colonies. “The residents will soon have the ownership rights of their properties”, said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday, adding that Union Government has agreed to the proposal sent by Delhi Government in this regard and urged people to prepare for large scale registry of homes.

Announcing about the ownership rights, Kejriwal said the Delhi Government  has received a reply to the proposal it had sent to the Centre in November 2015.

“Congratulations to the people living in unauthorised colonies. You will soon be owners of your houses. The Centre is willing to give its approval to the Delhi Government’s proposal sent  in November 2015. The preparations to begin registry have started. I would like to thank the Central Government on behalf of the people of Delhi,” Kejriwal said.

Welcoming the Central Government’s final nod to regularise unauthorised colonies, Kejriwal said that Union Government has given us very positive feedback on our proposal.

“The Centre has also sent some technical questions on the proposal. I have directed senior officials to immediately prepare responses to the satisfaction of the Central Government within the next 2-3 days,” Kejriwal added.

It may be noted that Delhi has 1,797 unathorised colonies and Delhi  Cabinet has cleared the proposal to regularise these colonies on November 2 and sent it to the Centre on November 12, 2015. “A long-standing dream of the people living in unauthorised colonies is going to be fulfilled soon. Until now, all Central and State Governments had betrayed the people living in

unauthorised colonies,” Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener said.

The unathorised colonies was remained hot issue during elections in the national Capital.  Kejriwal said that before every election, previous Governments would promise regularisation but would not fulfill their promises. But we started working on this promise right from day one.”

“I have directed the Revenue department to begin the preparations for the facilitation of large scale registries for all homes in unauthorised colonies across the city.

We will set up camps to ensure smooth processing of all registries and whatever else that may be needed to be done. No person should face any trouble to complete their registry.

The Urban Development Minister Satyendar Jain said the cut-off date for the regularisation of unauthorised colonies in Delhi will be January 2015 as mutually agreed upon by the Central and Delhi Governments. This means that those colonies which have applied for regularisation before January 2015 will be eligible for regularisation.

Delhi Government has spent Rs ,3500 crore on the construction of road and galis. Rs 2,500 crore has also been spent and is in the process of being spent on laying water and sewer pipeline in these colonies. In total, an unprecedented  Rs 6,000 crore have been invested into development works for unauthorised colonies.
