Chhattisgarh Congress on Saturday staged a statewide dharna in protest against the Centre’s decision to curtail state’s kerosene quota and hike fuel prices. The Congress also protested only 3.7% hike on minimum support price for paddy, reduction in rice quota for Dal-Bhat centre and school hostels.
The protests were held at district headquarters where Congressmen also voiced their discontentment over Priyanka Gandhi’s detention in Uttar Pradesh.
State Congress Chief Mohan Markam while addressing the gathering at Raipur accused Modi government of discriminating the Chhattisgarh government.
“The minimum support price (MSP) of paddy was not increased, kerosene oil quota meant poor people was reduced, rice supply for Dal Bhat centres -which served financially weaker people-- was stopped, the rice quota that can be procured by a state from central pool was also trimmed,” Markam said.
He also took to task the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh for the massacre of ten people in Sonbhadra district UP.
“Our leader Priyanka Gandhi was not allowed to meet the victims. BJP government has become oppressive. Congress always fights for the interest of poor people,” he said.
Congress party members, district office bearers and MLAs took part in the protest.
