Cops in Raipur to get day off on birthdays

Sunday, 03 March 2019 | Staff Reporter | RAIPUR

To boost morale of the overworked police personnel in Raipur, the district’s senior superintendent of police (SSP) has decided to grant holiday to policemen on their birthdays.

The cops will also receive greeting cards and sweets to make their birthday memorable, SSP Sheikh Arif Husen said.

The initiative will come into effect from March 1, and will cover from constabulary to additional superintendents of police-rank officers in the district.

Notably, Husen had earlier implemented the idea in Bilaspur and Balodabzar districts of the state, during his tenure as superintendent of police (SP) there. The response from police personnel was terrific, he said.

"The initiative will make our personnel feel happy and special on their birthdays and at the same time they will be motivated to work with full dedication without any stress," he said.

Notably, Chhattisgarh police had also formed a committed led by DIG Neha Champawat to look into various issues connected to the welfare of police personnel, such as their weekly offs, hike in different allowances etc.

“The committee had submitted its report, which has been forwarded to the state government for approval. Any decision on the report is yet to be announced,” Chhattisgarh Director General of Police DM Awasthi said.

"Policing is a tough job and giving them small happiness on their special moments can encourage them to take on the big challenges," he said, adding that they would be able to spend time with their families on the birthdays.

According to the SSP, a list of date of births of police personnel has been prepared.

“Name of the police personnel was sent to the police line on the eve of his/her birthday. From there greeting cards and a box of sweets are sent to the place of posting of the policeman concerned on his/her birthday”, he said.

The cost for the initiative is being borne from the police welfare fund. Besides, birthday wishes will also be displayed on the notice boards at the police stations concerned, he added.
