nThe Karanpur-based CRPF Cobra battalion jawans voluntarily extended support to cleaning Dalpat Sagar, one of the biggest pond in Jagdalpur, on Sunday which has been covered by water hyacinths.
Around 201 jawans since morning along with local residents participated in the cleaning drive. Around 4 tonne of garbage was taken out from the pond.
The interesting part was that regular morning walkers also joined in with jawans for more than three hours for the cleaning drive.
The jawans said that along with fighting on Naxal front and providing security to people, they have their own social responsibility.
They were pained to see the condition of this biggest water body and came to know about voluntary cleaning of ponds by few social workers. They requested their higher officials to be part of cleaning drive, which was approved.
Drive member Anil Lunkad said that drive of cleaning Dalpat Sagar began with few members from November 5. Now more and more people are joining the drive. He appreciated the initiative of CRPF jawans for extending active support for the drive. He said still administration support has not been provided in the drive to conserve the pond but the efforts will continue.
