Deceased worker kin's stir on 8th day

Sunday, 26 May 2019 | PNS | CHAMPUA

At 43-degree Celsius heat when nobody is found in the street, the members of bereaved family of late Mohanty  Karua, a former worker of Tata Sponge in Joda, is sitting on a  dharna in front of the main gate of the factory for the last eight days. Yet, there seems to be no immediate solution to the issue.

Sources revealed that after the mysterious death of Mohanty Karua, a permanent employee of Tata Sponge  company on   August 6, 2004,  the Tata management is alleged to have  tried to suppress the matter in fear of public outcry by assuring Bilashi Karua, widow of Mohanty, to provide a permanent job to her son and give all the compensation. Deepak Karua, son of late Mohanty, was given a job in the Raw Materials Department of the company but after working of about  three years, he was retrenched.

Though Bilashi had approached the then management many times  but to no avail. However , thanks to  trade union organisation like AITUC and BMS,

HMS and other social organisations for giving support to the widow of the former workman and Radhakanta Tripathy, Supreme Court advocate, who has taken up her issue  in the NHRC, she is continuing her stir till her grievances are addressed.
