Eight schoolchildren hurt as classroom’s roof collapses

Eight schoolchildren in the age group of 5-8 years were injured on Thursday when part of the roof of their classroom collapsed on them in Gonda district, police said.

The incident occurred in the afternoon at the Dariyapur Primary School run by the Basic Education department, Superintendent of Police Raj Karan Nayyar said. 

The children were rushed to the local community health centre from where they were taken to the district hospital for better medical care, the SP said, adding that the students were said to be out of danger. 

Senior administrative and police officials visited the school and met the injured, he added.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed concern over the accident and directed the officials to extend the best possible medical care to the victims. 

He also asked Additional Chief Secretary (Basic Education) to conduct physical verification of all the school buildings and take necessary measures if found in dilapidated state. 

Meanwhile eight persons were killed and half-a-dozen injured in two road accidents reported from Bijnor and Baghpat.

Five persons were killed and five injured in a collision between three trucks in Kotwali police station area of  Bijnor district.

Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Tyagi said that the accident occurred on Wednesday night at Kali Mandir roundabout when three track collided with each other. 

He said five people were killed and five others were injured, and they were admitted to hospital. 

The deceased were identified as Raghuveer (55), Pramod (28), Johnny (25), Rahul (28) and Pankaj (29). 

Among the deceased, four were natives of Rampur. 

In another mishap in Baghpat, three youths were killed when their car was hit by a truck near Mavi Kala mini toll plaza on Eastern Peripheral Expressway late Wednesday night. 

Police said the accident occurred at around 10:30 pm in which another youth was critically injured. 

After the accident, the truck driver fled the spot.

The injured were admitted to hospital. 

Prince Baisla, a native of Barauli village in Palwal area of Haryana, was going to Sonipat along with Sachin, Pappu and Ashu when their car was hit the by truck. All were in the age group of 25-28 years. 

In the accident Pappu, Ashu and Sachin died on the spot while Prince was critically injured.   

Meanwhile in Bareilly, a father-son duo died from electrocution after they came into contact with live wire while irrigating a field behind a power sub-station, police said on Thursday. 

The incident took place on Wednesday when Saligram Maurya (50) and his son Bittu (18) were irrigating the field behind the power sub-station on Aonla-Bareilly highway.

The villagers alleged negligence on the part of power sub-station employees, claiming that they had orally asked them to disconnect electricity line as there was some problem in supply, but were asked to give a written application. 

Angry villagers blocked the Aonla-Bareilly highway and created traffic jam, demanding justice for the family of the deceased. 

An FIR was registered against Power department’s executive engineer, junior engineer and others under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the India Penal Code. A probe is underway.
