A former student leader was arrested at the Panikoli bus-stand of Jajpur district on Tuesday on charge of cheating a girl.
The accused Jitendra Pradhan is a former president of the Biju Chhatra Janata Dal’s Binjharpur unit.
He was booked by the Binjharpur police after a girl lodged a complaint accusing him of maintaining physical
relationship with her with a promise to marry her.
The girl further alleged that later Pradhan refused to marry her.
“We arrested Jitendra Pradhan from the Panikoili bus-stand today.
His statement will be recorded and he will be produced before court later today,” said a police official.
Earlier, Pradhan had been suspended from the BJD membership after the police complaint was lodged against him.
