A massive explosion near the residence of Bharatiya Janata Party MLA, Major Sunil Dutt Dwivedi, in Farrukhabad on Wednesday created panic in the area.
Senior officers, who immediately rushed to the spot on getting information about the blast, tried to dilute the matter, saying it some firecrackers may have exploded.
Due to the impact of the explosion, window panes of several near-by houses were broken.
As the blast occurred in a bag abandoned at the spot, the locals suspect the hands of some subversive forces behind it.
A case was registered and investigations are on.
Circle Officer (City) in Farrukhabad, Manni Lal, said, ‘The residence of BJP MLA Major Sunil Dutt Dwivedi is situated in the Senapati area. The blast occurred in a red bag abandoned in a garbage bin about 200 steps away from the legislator’s house.”
“No casualties was reported due to the blast. The explosion was so intense that the windows of the surrounding houses were shattered. The forensic team is engaged in investigating the blast,” he said.
According to police, preliminary investigation suggest that some firecrackers had exploded.
The police said that when the incident happened, Dutt and his family members were in Lucknow.
Sunil Dutt Dwivedi’s cousin Sudhanshu said the explosion was so powerful that it was heard in the nearby areas also.
He demanded investigation by a forensic team.
