With the arrest of three arms peddlers, including father and a son, the sleuths of Delhi Police have busted a syndicate allegedly involved in supplying ammunitions to criminals in national
Capital, Uttar Pradesh (UP), Haryana, Madhya Pradesh (MP) and Bihar. Police have also recovered 1,250 live cartridges from the possession of the accused.
The accused have been identified as Praveen Kumar Verma (51), his son Prateek Kumar Verma (23) alias Sunny, both residents of Shikohabad, district in Firozabad, UP.
While their courier boy for illegal ammunition is identified as Sonu Singh (22), a native of Dholpur in Rajasthan and presently was residing at Delhi’s Madanpur Khadar village.
Police said that the accused Sonu has many cases of extortion, robbery, attempt to murder registered against him in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
“Sonu was an important player in syndicate as he used to courier pilfered cartridges to various places in Haryana, Rajasthan, Western UP and Delhi for a handsome commission per trip,” said police.
According to Manishi Chandra, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Special Cell, On July 7, specific inputs were received that Parveen Kumar, along with an associate, would come near Delhi’s Ashram Metro Station to deliver illicit cartridges to an associate.
“Acting on the tip-off, a trap was laid and accused were apprehended.
During interrogation, the accused Praveen revealed that since 2007, he has been involved in this illicit trade.
He purchased two wheelers and cars for transporting these cartridges to Rajasthan, Bihar, UP West, MP and other States,” said the DCP.
“Praveen further told police that he also engaged his elder son Prateek in this trade. He along with his son, used to visit Etah, Etawa, Mainpuri, Firozabad and others places to collect pilfered cartridges from his contacts and then to supply them to receivers in various States for a handsome margin of Rs 200 to Rs 400 per cartridge,” said the DCP.
“Parveen has been found supplying over 3,500-4,000cartridges per month to his contacts in Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, MP and NCR,” said the DCP adding that further investigation is in progress to identify all links of this arms and ammunition network.
