Flying squad confiscates Rs 1.78 lakh

The flying squad and static team confiscated Rs  1.78 lakh in cash on the border of Bemetara and Mungeli districts during intensive checking as part of its ongoing drill to enforce election model code of conduct.

According to Bemetara superintendent of police Prashant Thakur, a check post was put up at Gadamor, bordering Bemetara and Mungeli districts.

On Monday, during the intensive checking of vehicles, Rs  50,000 was seized from one Nyaykishore Damodhar Das, a resident of village Jhajhpuri, Lormi.

Another Rs  1.28 lakh was confiscated from one Vrinda Prasad, a resident of Patharia, the SP said.

Both are presently residing in Mungeli and were travelling in the same vehicle (CG28-J-5968).

Both persons told police that they had withdrawn the amount from banks against the payment received by selling the paddy on minimum support price.

The monitoring team had directed them to submit the documentary evidence, and initiated further investigation.
