Four youth who came from Bihar to Dehradun to prepare for NDA entrance test were arrested by Doiwala Police. These four have been accused of breaking into several mobile phone shops and stealing phones because they wanted to make money through the quickest medium available. Police have recovered 45 stolen mobile phones amounting to about Rs 5,00,000, one Digital Video Recorder (DVR), two bill books and one motor cycle from them.
Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nivedita Kukreti told the media that four accused students Abhijit Singh, Satyam, Roshan Kumar and Sahil- all aged 19 years- have been arrested. She further informed, “On the night of April 13 and 17 two mobile phone shops in Harrawala and Jolly Grant were burgled. Earlier on February 7 and April 4 two more such cases were reported after which a team was formed under SP (Rural).”
Giving information she said, “After checking CCTV footage of the crime scene, the stolen mobile phones were kept on surveillance by the Special Operations Group. Soon after this we got information that some boys are sending mobile phones through courier in large numbers from Karnpur. It was an important clue on which we collected further information from nearby courier shops in Karnpur. From a shop near DAV College we found that mobile phones were sent to Bihar through courier on April 17 in large numbers, which we called back.”
About the arresting she said, “On April 21 we got information that the four accused boys are planning to travel to different cities in order to sell the mobile phones they had stolen. From ISBT Chowk police arrested them and recovered 45 stolen mobile phones. In police interrogation they have admitted that they couriered large number of stolen mobile phones to Bihar.”
