The Delhi Police has arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly firing at a national level judo player and gang rival in outer Delhi’s Ranhola area early this month. The accused has been identified as Monu (23), a resident of Vikaspuri. He was active on Tiktok.
According to Dr Ajit Kumar Singla, the Additional Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, a tip-off was received on Friday that Monu would come near Charak Apartment, Budela, Vikaspuri to meet his aid with illegal weapons.
“Thereafter, a trap was laid and the accused was arrested. During interrogation, it was revealed that there was a rivalry between Jasmit and Suraj fighter gang over the supremacy in the area. There was dispute over protection money from illegal satta operators,” said Dr Singla.
“On the intervening night of June 1 and 2, Monu, along with his five associates, fired bullets at Manoj, a national level judo player, and Suraj. Manoj sustained severe bullet injuries on their head and legs, while Suraj sustained gunshots in his leg in the incident,” said the additional CP.
“Monu and Ashu have been arrested and police are looking to nab Jasmit, the gang leader, and other associates who are absconding,” the additional CP added.
“Monu had procured the pistol from Sunny, who was already arrested on June 15. Police has recovered one country-made pistol and four live cartridges from his possession,” said the additional CP.
