Gang of vehicle thieves busted

Monday, 19 August 2019 | PNS | Gwalior

The Gwalior police on Sunday claimed to have busted a gang of vehicle thieves who used to sell the parts of the stolen vehicles after dismantling them.  According to sources in the police the gang is behind the theft of at least a dozen cars and scores of bikes.

Speaking to the media persons, Janakgunj SHO Gyanedra Sing said that the police had earlier received information that a gang of car thieves was active in the city. He added that the police had also received a few complaints pertaining to the theft of bikes and cars. During an intensive operation the police succeeded in arresting one Kallu aka Manoj Mahore. During interrogation Kallu said that the gang consists of five members and gave details about them. The police soon arrested two more of the gang members from their houses.

The police have identified the arrested gang members as Kallu aka Manoj Mahore, Rahul Rajak and Chandan Bhaghel, all residents of Gwalior. Two other members including the kingpin Akash Pashi are still at large. The police also recovered an Indigo car, bearing Registration number MP 07 CA 6099 which was earlier stolen from the house of Pushkat Dixit, a business man on the intervening night of 18-19 July.

They also recovered some tools the gang members have been using to dismantle the vehicles.

The SHO said that during interrogation the police have got some clues about the various vehicles that have been stolen by the gang. The gang members also told the police that the stolen vehicles are usually dismantled and the parts sold to scrap traders as selling parts is more profitable than selling the whole vehicle.

A police party has been formed to arrest Akash and the other gang member. The police are hopeful that if they can get hold of the kingpin they can solve several cases of car thefts in the city.  The police are also on the lookout for the scarp traders who have been buying parts from the gang.
