Gold worth Rs 1 cr seized at IGIA

Delhi Customs Official at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport have seized gold worth more than Rs 1 crore in three separate incidents in last four days. 

In first incident, customs officials have seized gold worth Rs 34 lakh from a toilet at Delhi international airport. “A cleaner found a packet wrapped with white colour doctor tape while cleaning a toilet near the arrival gate on Thursday last week. On unwrapping the packet, three pieces of gold bars weighing one kg and having a market value of around Rs 34 lakh, were seized,” said a senior Customs official.

In second incident, a foreign origin passenger has been arrested for allegedly smuggling nine rectangular gold pieces, weighing around 1421 grams and worth Rs 27 lakhs in market.

According to a senior Customs official, the man was intercepted after his arrival from Ashgabat to Delhi on June 21. “He was stopped by officials and during his personal and baggage search resulted in recovery of nine gold bars. Police has seized the gold and the passenger has been arrested,” said the senior customs official.

In third incident, on June 20, two men were arrested after Customs officials found six gold kada (bangles) and four gold chains weighing around 1689.5 gram with total market value around Rs 58 lakh, in their baggage.
