The Uttarakhand governor Baby Rani Maurya participated in the seventh convocation of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at Kashipur on Thursday. Congratulating the students on the occasion, the governor said that education has many purposes. But, simply ensuring a good career or working in multi national companies should not be the only purpose of education. Institutes like IIM should promote the research work for the welfare of the society also, she added. The governor also presented medals and degrees to the students on the occasion.

Expressing her views on the occasion, Maurya said that Uttarakhand is a land of opportunities.  Educational institutes of international repute along with qualitative human resources are available in the state. The state also has a good growth rate. She further said that Uttarakhand can achieve big targets of development with the help of expertise of the institutes like the IIM.

Maurya also stressed on the need for joint efforts involving the technical expertise of GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology along with the management expertise of IIM Kashipur to develop a new business model for the agriculture sector in the state. Elaborating the importance of medicinal herbs and horticulture products in the mountainous regions of the State, the governor said that scientific farming and integrated management of international level is needed in this context. She further said that equal opportunity for women in campus placement is first step towards gender equality. Later companies should provide them with opportunities to grow along with equal rights in decision making process.  There should not be any sort of discrimination between male and female personnel. The governor said that a happy and prosperous India should be the aim of every student. The nation needs not only smart and capable managers but also leadership dedicated to progress of the nation, added Maurya.
