The 73rd Independence Day was celebrated with passion and great enthusiasm across the Gwalior Chambal Division.
The main programme was held at the SAF Grounds situated at Kampoo.
Lakhan Singh Yaadv, Cabinet Minister of Animal Husbandry and Pisciculture, Government of Madhya Pradesh unfurled the Tricolor at an impressive ceremony at SAF Grounds in the presence of thousands of citizens and police and district officials.
Families of freedom fighters and martyrs of Kargil war too were present.
Yadav inspected the guard of honour and march past presented by members of the Special Armed Force, the NCC and the Scouts and Guides. After the march past the minister read out the message from Kamal Nath, the Chief Minister of the state.
During the ceremony the minister honoured the families of freedom fighters and families of martyrs who had laid down their lives in the Kargil war.
Students from various schools presented a variety of cultural programs. Balloons were released as a mark of peace and prosperity.
The Independence Day was also celebrated at Mukkerji Bhawan, the District Head Quarters of the BJP.
Members of Parliament Prabhat Jha, Vivek Shewalkar and scores of party leaders and workers took part in the celebrations. The Congress party too celebrated the Independence Day with fervor and excitement. Leaders and party workers joined in a procession taken out from the Congress Bhawan. Patriotic slogans and songs were chanted by the participants.
The Tricolour was unfurled at the party office by the DCC President Devendra Sharma.
The Independence Day was also celebrated at the Commissioner’s office and the collectorate.
Divisional Commissioner B M Sharma unfurled the National Flag at the DC office while District Collector Anurag Chaudhary unfurled the flag at the collectorate.
Union Minister Narendra Singh Toimar, Congress leader Jyodiraditya Scindia, Cabinet Ministers Lakhna Singh Yadav, Pradhuman Singh Tomar, Imrati Devi, Member of Parliament Vivek Shewalkar, MLAs Munnalal Goyal, Praveen Pathak, Bharat Singh Kushwah, Divisional Commissioner BM Sharma, District Collector Anurag Chaudhary and Gwalior SSP Navneet Bhasin also greeted the citizens on the Independence Day.
