I-T raids hosps of renowned docs

Friday, 18 January 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

In a crackdown on Thursday morning, the sleuths of Income Tax Department raided over a dozen residences and private hospitals of renowned doctors across Uttar Pradesh.

Sources said the raids were conducted simultaneously in Lucknow, Meerut, Moradabad, Kanpur, Noida and Hapur.

The raids were carried out following intelligence inputs regarding bogus operations, irregularities in accounts and undisclosed financial investments.

The I-T sleuths seized several documents related to undeclared assets of the

doctors. The entire search operation was completed under tight security.

Raids were also conducted at the residence of Dr Mahesh Chandra Sharma of SPM Hospital & Trauma Centre, Kanpur and SIPS in Lucknow.

Raids were also conducted at the residences and other establishments of Dr Ratan Kumar Singh, owner of Charak Hospital in Lucknow; Dr Prem Kumar Khanna, owner of JPMC Hospital & Path Lab in Moradabad; Dr Bhupendra Chaudhury, neurophysician in Meerut; Dr Rajiv Motiani and Dr Gulab Gupta’s Neo Hospital in Noida; and Dr Ankit Sharma of GS Medical College & Hospital, Pilakhua in Hapur.

It may be mentioned that on November 30 last year, the IT teams had carried out raids at the premises of two doctor brothers in Kanpur and unearthed unaccounted money and ornaments and seized banned currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denominations in large quantity.

Sources said that in the raids on Thursday the I-T teams seized gold and other costly gems, unaccounted cash receipts, documents relating to unaccounted investments and evidence of manipulation of accounts.

The team members, however, refused to reveal any details saying they would first look into all the documents before going ahead with legal action against the tax evaders.

The bank lockers of the doctors have been sealed and would be opened later on for further verification.
