Haryana Police Inspector bags gold

Chandigarh: Nirmala, Inspector of Haryana Police, has once again brought laurels to the State by bagging gold medal in the World Police and Fire Games 2019, which were concluded in Chengdu, China. A spokesman said, Nirmala has made the Haryana Police proud by winning gold medal in these games. A recipient of Bhim Award, Nirmala won the gold medal in the 53-kg category wrestling championship. Earlier, she had won gold at the World Police Games 2017 held in USA.

Punjab minister flags off 81 scooters

Chandigarh: To provide quality health services at the doorsteps of tuberculosis patients in Punjab, the state Health and Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu flagged off 81 scooters at the Sub-divisional hospital (SDH) in Kharar. A total of 81 vehicles have been provided to the Senior Treatment Supervisors and Senior Treatment Lab Supervisors (STS/STLS) who will visit houses of TB patients to enquire about their well-being and would ensure that the patients were being given essential medicines in a proper way,” said Sidhu. Apart from that, these field workers would get information about any suspected TB patient in his house and nearby area, and if any patient is identified, they will facilitate his transportation to the nearest government health facility for proper testing and treatment.

Workshop on conserving state rivers held

Chandigarh: Punjab Forest Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot said that in present times conservation of trees had become vital to safeguard out rivers and environment. The views were expressed by the Minister while addressing a workshop organised by the Himalayan Research Institute, Shimla to conserve main rivers of Punjab namely Satluj, Raavi, Beas by enhancing forest cover around these rivers. Apprising about the plantation of 550 plants in every village of state on the occasion of 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev he said that 56 lakh plants have been planted in 9000 villages so far while rest of 4000 villages would be covered by September 30.

ACS stresses on Communications Capacity Building

Chandigarh: Presiding over the round table conference on ‘Development Communication’ with the members of World Bank Communications Team, Vini Mahajan, Punjab Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Industries Department stressed upon the need of communications capacity building in the government departments. She said, the success of government schemes and projects depends largely on peoples’ perception about them and this in turn rests upon how well are they communicated to the stakeholders. Strong Communication helps to overcome public resistance, she said.

BSNL ties up with UIDIA

Chandigarh: BSNL has tied up with UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) for providing Aadhar enrolment and updation services to Indian citizens. Under this initiative BSNL is going to open 140 Aadhar enrolment centres in different customer service centres of BSNL in Punjab circle. These Aadhar Kendras will be in addition to already working Aadhar Kendras in banks and post offices. First Aadhar Kendra was set up at Customer Service Centre, BSNL Telephone Exchange Sector-17 here on July 10.

Cipla Foundation felicitates 66 students

Baddi: In continuance of its efforts to promote higher learning, Cipla Foundation, the social responsibility arm of Cipla Limited, felicitated 66 students from 7 institutions across Baddi as part of its ‘Merit Awards’. This annual initiative, instituted a decade ago, recognizes merit-holders of board-examinations of classes 10 and 12 from various government and government aided schools across India.Around56% of the awardees in this year were girls.

1050 boxes of illicit foreign liquor seized 

Chandigarh: Crime Investigation Agency of Haryana Police has seized 1050 boxes of illicit Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) in Sonipat. Police have also impounded a truck being used in smuggling of liquor. A spokesman said arrested accused was identified as Ravinder alias Kala, a resident of Rohana in Sonipat.   During preliminary interrogation, accused revealed that he has brought seized liquor from Punjab for supply in different places in the area. A case under the provisions of Excise Act was registered against the accused. Further investigation is underway.

IIT Ropar accomodates flood-affected people

Ropar: IIT Ropar has come to its testing time during the worst floods at Ropar in the last three decades. The heavy torrential rain in the hills during the last week severely affected the entire stretch of the Rupnagar district.  Some immediate steps were taken to evacuate the campus, as, institute declared suspension of classes from August 20-25. The students were evacuated and transferred to safer places. All the faculty and staff residing in the main campus quarters were also evacuated and taken to safer places. Also, IIT Ropar accommodated 250 local displaced residents of flood hit area in the hostels of IIT Ropar on upper floors.

Bakery ‘Let’s Go Dutch’ opens at elante mall

Chandigarh: Tricity’s European styled bakery – ‘Let’s Go Dutch’, has been set up at Elante Mall here.  The cute place which has been aesthetically designed stands out as a little island of home-made baking goodness, just opposite Fun City on the top floor of Elante Mall. The kiosk is colorfully designed and its ambiance gives you a feel of ‘Dutch bakeries'.
