AIKMS stages protest before B’pur RDC office 

Brahmapur: The All India Kisan Mazdoor Sabha (AIKMS), Ganjam unit held a protest meeting here on Wednesday led by AIKMS national secretary Bhalo Chandra Sadangi. The members took out a pro cession that culminated in front of the RDC (Southern) office and submitted a memorandum to the RDC addressed to the President of India demanding proper implementation of the Forest Rights Act 2006. Among others, farmer leader Ladu Kishore Dakua, AIKMS State VP Kusanath Pradhan, secretary Pratap Nayak, Ganjam unit secretary Kedar Sabar, Raghunath Nayak, Tribal leaders Kaduka Sabar and Mangala Mallick were present.

AP Speaker visits Budhi Takurani Temple

Brahmapur: Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker T Sitaram along with his family members visited the Maa Budhi Thakurani Temple and offer prayers to the goddess on Tuesday morning. Stating the he has visited the temple many times earlier, the Speaker said he feels peace in mind by offering prayers to the goddess. He thanked Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for undertaking developmental activities in Brahmapur city. Later, he also visited the Maa Bhairabi Temple.

Biju Shramika distributes cards to workers

Brahmapur: The Biju Shramika Sammukhya, Ganjam district distributed labour cards to 200 construction workers of Ward-24 at a programme here Tuesday. MP Chandra Sekhar Sahu, MLA Bikram Panda, former MLA Dr RC Chyaupatnaik and former BDA Chairman Subash Chandra Maharana gracing as guests spoke about various welfare programmes being implemented by the State Governement for construction workers. The programme was presided over by former Corporator Sanghamitra Dalei. Sammukhya district secretary Ujala Chanda Padhy was present. The labour card holders would be able to get various benefits from the schemes, they said.

‘Run Puri-Ahmedabad train daily’

Brahmapur: Brahmapur Railway Station advisory committee member Dr Siva Prasad Mishra on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to the Brahmapur Station Master pressing for fulfilment of a 10-point charter of demands. Mishra in a letter addressed to the East Coast Railway (ECoR) CGM demanded opening waiting rooms in the second and third platforms, drinking water facilities, opening of a medical store in the station, running Puri-Ahmedabad train on a daily basis and another train to Mumbai from Brahmapur.

Indian Bank holds blood donation camp in B’pur

Brahmapur: The Indian Bank organised a blood donation camp here on Wednesday. Bank branch manager Santanu Kumar Behera inaugurated the camp in which as many as 50 units of blood were collected. MKCG Medical College Hospital Blood Bank’s Dr Rashmita Panigrahi and her team collected the blood. Bank assistant branch manager Sankar Raju, regional branch manager SK Dash and other employees were present in the camp.

History-sheeter held in Baleswar

Baleswar: The Basta police on Wednesday arrested a notorious criminal Amit Sahoo alias Pintu of Nayapada village and forwarded to him to court. Basta police station IIC Dhaneswar Sahu said Amit was a proclaimed offender and was involved in 21 cases under several police stations including the Basta, Sahadevkhunta and Rupsa in Baleswar district and Baisinga of Mayurbhanj. 

Red Cross distributes relief in Puri dist 

Bhubaneswar: The Indian Red Cross Society Odisha State Branch distributed relief materials to the flood victims at Dokanda, Kadalibasta villages of Dokanda panchayat and Badas, Balipatana, Tarapada, Baidyanath Patana villages of Badas panchayat of Kanas block in Puri district. The materials were distributed under the guidance of Honorary Secretary Major General Kalpana Das. Among others, Joint Secretary Durga Sankar Sarangi, Junior Red Cross Officer Laxman Swain, Prasant Barik and Chandan Swain were present.

Forest officials rescue bear in Malkangiri

Malkangiri: Forest Department officials on Tuesday night rescued a sloth bear which had strayed into Balimela in Malkangiri district.

The presence and movement of two to three bears in the area during the last one month had triggered panic among residents. After two weeks of effort, the forest officials managed to capture an animal in a trap. The bear had intruded into a village and was searching for food near a hotel at Chitrakonda Chhak, during which it was rescued. It was later released into the Chitrakonda forest.
