Sarvodaya leader Sumitra passes away

Bhubaneswar: Sarvodaya leader and veteran freedom fighter Rama Devi’s daughter-in-law Sumitra Choudhury passed away at her residence here on Sunday. She was 96. Her last rites will be performed in Cuttack on Monday. Sumitra had married Manmohan Choudhury, son of Rama Devi and Gopabandhu Choudhury. She was also close to Mahatma Gandhi. She had participated in the Sarvodaya movement called by Vinoba Bhave for uplifting people in rural India.

Meet on ‘Chronic Neurological Conditions’ 

Bhubaneswar: A seminar on ‘Chronic Neurological Conditions’ was organised at the Institute of Health Sciences here on Saturday. SSEPD Secretary Bhaskar Sarma inaugurated the seminar in the presence of Director Bratati Harichandan. They visited the campus and appreciated the good work being done at the center on rehabilitation for different disabilities. Neurophysician Dr Subhransu Jena and Neuropsychiatists Dr Pranab Mahapatra and other Speech-language therapists and physiotherapists spoke. Among others, institute secretary Prof Satya Mahapatra, programme director Nalini Mohanty and Principal Dr Santosh Kumar.

1st heart, lung transplant programme launched

Bhubaneswar: The CARE Hospitals, Bhubaneswar launched the State’s first comprehensive “Heart and Lung Transplant Programme” here on Friday. Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das launched the programme in presence of hospital CEO Dr. Raajiv Singhal, Medical Director Dr MP Tripaty and COO Gurrit Kaur Sethi. The programme is supported by world renowned heart and lung transplant surgeon Dr KR Balakrishnan, who has performed more than 306 heart transplants, over 52 LVAD and more than 30 lung transplants.

Decomposed body recovered from Kuakhai riverbed

Bhubaneswar: A decomposed body of an unidentified person was recovered from the Kuakhai riverbed here on Sunday. The incident came to light when locals spotted the body and informed police. Fire Services personnel reached the spot and recovered the body near the Bankula bridge under the Balianta police limits. Investigation by police was underway.

ECoRWWO holds cleanliness awareness drive

Bhubaneswar: As part of the Swachh Rail-Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, ECoRWWO members under the leadership of its VP Sangeeta Behera participated in Shramdan programme by cleaning the Phulwari School premises at Rail Vihar here. School kids were also encouraged to clean their own homes, school and also not to litter anywhere and to use dustbins. Children of the school with the guidance of their teachers and the ECoRWWO members participated distributed leaflets in the surrounding areas to make people aware about cleanliness.
