Chhattisgarh excise and industries minister Kawasi Lakhma said stern action will be taken against the officials if they fail to curb sale of smuggled liquor from Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh in the state.
Lakhma is on a two-day visit to Bilaspur to participate in different events. He was addressing the media when the question was raised, as large quantity of liquor of brands sold in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh was seized by excise and police departments in the state.
One of the distilleries in Bilaspur district was supposed to sell the brewed liquor in Madhya Pradesh but it sold the products locally.
The minister was surprised when he was intimated that a person, who served six months jail term for financial misappropriation in a government liquor shop and was also caught for illegal sale of liquor after smuggling it from neighboring states, had been made a regional manager in Mungeli district, after his release. He said the matter will be looked into.
