Man killed as speeding Mercedes hit bike from behind

A 38-year-old man was killed on Niti Marg in Chanakyapuri, after he was hit allegedly by a speeding Mercedes Benz being driven by a student who was later identified as one Kavish and pursuing Master Business Administration (MBA) course. The deceased has been identified as Praveen who eaked his livelihood by working as a gardener.

Praveen, who lived with his family in Trilokpuri and he was working as a gardener on temporary basis with the New Delhi Municipal Corporation. Police said that the accused identified as Kavish, a resident of Rajokri was taken into custody from the spot and the offending vehicle has been seized.

According to a senior police official, the incident was reported to police around 7 am on Tuesday following which Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) was dispatched to the spot. 

“The victim was riding his bike, when he was hit by a speeding luxury car from behind at the roundabout on Niti Marg. The car, Mercedes Benz, was being driven by a 23-year-old MBA student, who was on his way to attend classes in Lodhi Road when his vehicle hit the bike,” a senior police official.

“The victim was found to be wearing helmet at the time of incident. The impact of the accident was such that both the vehicles sustained severe damages. The victim was taken to the nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead,” said the senior police official.

“A case under relevant section has been registered at Chanakya Puri police station and the accused has been arrested. A medical examination of the accused was done to find out if he was under the influence of alcohol. However, no traces of alcohol was found in the body of the accused,” said a police official privy to investigation.

The accused was later released on bail, police said, adding further probe is underway.
