Metro Phase IV work to begin by Nov-end

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is going to start the construction of first corridor of Phase IV- Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg (extension of Magenta Line) by the end of this November. The DMRC on Wednesday, awarded the first civil contract for the work of 28.92 km long section with 10 stations.

“This is the first civil contract awarded for the construction of Phase — IV project of Delhi Metro portion from Janakpuri West — RK Ahsram Marg Corridor (Extension of Line - 8). The work is expected to start soon by end of this month once the pollution level decreases and gets normal in the national Capital,” said an official.

As per the officials, the DMRC has already completed all the preconstruction works such as site survey, mapping, Geo technical survey and others. Now, the civil construction work will start which include the part design and construction of elevated viaduct, elevated ramp, siding line and station buildings.

DMRC officials said the national Capital will get another metro ride by 2023 once the construction will begin. “The work on this corridor is expected to commence by end of November, 2019 and is scheduled to be completed within 30 months from the commencement. The 28.92 km long Janakpuri West — RK Ahsram Marg corridor is an extension of Magenta Line and will come up with 22 stations,” they added.

The upcoming extension of Magenta Line — Janakpuri West — RK Ahsram Marg Corridor will have 10 stations at Keshopur, Paschim Vihar, Peeragarhi, Mangolpuri, West Enclave, Pushpanjali, Deepali Chowk, Madhuban Chowk, Prashant Vihar and North Pitampura. The section may have interchange facility for Green Line at Peeragarhi/ Paschim Vihar besides RK Ashram Marg for Blue Line.

Besides, the DMRC has floated tender for another five section of the three corridors approved by the Central government in March. The total corridors under Phase IV is six and out of the six corridors, the Union cabinet has approved three corridors that is Mukundpur-Maujpur, RK Ashram-Janakpuri and West and Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridors. 

The phase IV project’s three corridors with a total length of 61.679 km will have 17 underground and 29 elevated stations. Out of its  total length, 22.359 km will be underground and 39.32 km will be built as elevated section. metro corridors will be Rs 24,948.65 crore.

The other three proposed corridors which have not yet been approved by the Union Cabinet are Rithala-Bawana-Narela, Inderlok-Indraprastha and Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block.
