To provide more nutritional foods to schoolchildren and benefit farmers, the State Government is now mulling to include milk products in the menu of midday meal (MDM).
Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare and Cooperation Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain stated this here on Tuesday.
“The Government is examining a proposal on addition of milk products in the midday meals being provided to children in primary schools. A decision will be taken soon in this regard,” said the Minister.
School students will get better nutrition after inclusion of milk products in the MDM. At present, they are being served rice, dal, vegetable and egg curry in the menu in a routine manner.
As more quantum of milk would be required, the move would help thousands of dairy farmers to earn extra bucks.
Notably, the Odisha Milk Farmers’ Association had been demanding inclusion of milk products in the MDM menu for long.
